Our practice really helps patients get into the habit of good routine dental care, starting with a thorough examination as a new patient, determining what type of cleaning that they need, also diagnosing what areas of their home care maybe need to be improved. A visit with our hygienists as well is also going to help reinforce good home care, things that they can do to in between cleanings to help minimize build up on the teeth, minimize tooth decay, also recommending the appropriate amount of time between recall schedules. For some people, every six months with a cleaning is going to be sufficient.
There’s other people out there who are going to need to be seen more frequently, possibly every three to four months to treat different types of gum disease or advanced gum disease. Also, there’s people who maybe have a higher rate of decay in their mouth because of just the amount of acid that’s in their mouth, possible treatments, maybe increasing the amount of fluoride that they’re getting through toothpastes and mouthwashes, just reinforcing good home care.
